fertility yoga

A gentle class designed to support your journey to parenthood.

What is fertility yoga?

Fertility yoga is a supportive and safe style of yoga for those who are curious about conception or actively trying to have a child. It combines gentle movement, mindfulness, and deep relaxation to help strengthen the mind-body connection and maintain mental wellbeing during a time that can be very challenging emotionally, psychologically and financially.

If you are going through a fertility treatment such as egg or embryo freezing, IUI, IVF or ICSI, fertility yoga can be a wonderful and affordable complementary therapy to include alongside.

FAQS

what can i expect?

This class is open to all levels, including those who have never done yoga before.

A typical class includes:

  • An opening circle with a chance to share or not share

  • A gentle, low-impact yoga flow

  • An emphasis on becoming okay with doing less

  • Mindfulness

  • Fertility-focused visualisations and affirmations

  • Techniques for deep relaxation

Is it safe?

All movement is safe and supportive for trying to conceive, including during fertility treatments such as Egg Freezing/Donating, IUI, IVF and ICSI should you feel up for it.

That said, there are many reasons physically and emotionally why you may not want to do any movement based yoga during some parts of your treatment. You may be feeling extremely tender and sore around injection sites, have hyperstimulated ovaries (OHSS), nausea, or generally just not feel up for it. Take it really easy and listen to your body with a strong sense of compassion and kindness during this time.

If you do want to come along to class, but unsure of how you’ll feel, know that you can always skip or modify poses at any time. You’re welcome to rest the entire class.

is it backed by science?

Studies exploring the relationship between yoga and fertility have shown promising results. Yoga practice may help regulate the endocrine system, enhance blood flow to the reproductive organs, reduce stress levels, and improve hormonal balance, all of which play a crucial role in fertility [1].

Although preliminary evidence indicates the positive effects of yoga on infertility, further clinical research is needed, and there is no guaranteed outcome. My classes are rooted in my fertility yoga training and my personal experience going through IVF at age 40.

If you are experiencing infertility, or in a state of uncertainty about having children, the emotional, psychological and financial toll it can take cannot be understated. The support of fertility yoga helped me immensely during this time in my life, which is why I’m so passionate about offering support to others, and in an affordable way.

what should I wear/bring?

Wear whatever’s comfy!  Sweatpants, loose trousers and yoga leggings are all suitable. It’s a down to earth and welcoming class.

Yoga mats are provided at no extra cost, but feel free to bring your own mat if you prefer.

what are your qualifications?

I am qualified to teach Fertility Yoga through Sally Parkes/Real Fertile. You can read more about my training and experience here.

I do not, and am not qualified to offer any medical advice or advice on fertility treatments. If you’re interested in learning more about fertility treatments in the UK, hfea.gov.uk is a helpful starting point or speak to your GP.

my mission

I trained as a Fertility Yoga teacher to help others going through the isolating experience of trying to conceive.

I believe yoga and community can improve wellbeing during this challenging time, and that we shouldn’t have to go through it alone.
